Neither do I !! ;o)
My computer is 9 year old this month, and I replaced the motherboard 5
years ago (running an Athlon XP 1700+), and even back then it wasn't
really top of the range.
I did increase the amount of RAM though, incrementally through the
years, from 256MB to 1GB. I hear the Live CD doesn't run well with only
256MB, maybe this is what slows the graphical installer down, on your
machine ? If you can afford it (and your motherboard can take it), go
get some more RAM, even cheap used one from ebay. I have 3 memory
sticks on my board, all bought used from ebay, different speeds, brand
and size, yet everything works perfectly in unison ! No need to fork out
bags of cash ! ;-)
