[Feisty] Normal ways to kill xserver don't work

Now when you and Vincent mentioned hardware, I have a GeForce 8800
graphics card in my machine at present, and before the version of 16.3.
Feisty wouldn't even install with this card (and the live version
wouldn't boot). Funny that I didn't come to think of this myself - I
even filed a bug report about installation problems with GeForce 8800
(bug 91556). Now the installation works, but one can only use the vesa
driver, which I'm using now (the proprietary Nvidia driver supposedly
works too).

I used to have a GeForce 7900 GTO earlier, and I had no problems with
Ctrl + Alt + F1 then (just tried it a couple of times, because I
normally use the Gnome terminal).
