got ubuntu, lost xp

This is not a fix but just a test

Set your BIOS to boot Windows first, before the CD and floppy just to 
see if Windows does boot.  If Windows doesn't boot, you're likely a 
candidate for a reinstall or at least you have a clue as to where the 
trouble is.

If Windows does boot, then set BIOS to boot CD first, then the floppy, 
and third, Windows.  Then try booting  Windows without the UBUNTU CD.  
If Windows works, restart with the UBUNTU CD in place, and be sure NOT 
to actually install UBUNTU at this time.
