You may have snowed a lot of regulars here with that statement. If you want
to do that you might find it easier to switch from Fedora to Mandriva or SUSE
instead of *buntu. To make that work in Debian requires customizing its
startup system. Debians start virtually everything in runlevel 2, making
runlevels 3 & 5 meaningless. In contrast, non-Debians defer major services
into discrete runlevels:
Multiuser: 2
Networking: 3
Xorg: 5
e.g., if your Debian system locks up when X is started, you need to restart
in single to prevent X startup, whereas in non-Debians you can start in any
of 1, 2 or 3 to prevent lockup and fix your broken X.
