I´m not sure if you are asking what one does about incomplete downloads
or seeing file size here, Andrew. I am going to try my best to give an
answer, though, and if I made a bad assumption, shame on me.

To see file sizes, you can use aptitude. When one has the package you
desire highlighted, hit enter and it will give you both the compressed
and installed size. For help with aptitude:

I think you can use apt-get autoclean to remove downloaded files, but I
am not sure the system saves those incomplete downloads. References for

Perhaps someone can confirm on these imcomplete downloads?
