hey,
I know, Ubuntu mailing list, but I know there is a solution to the
windows problem. There's nothing to stop you from moving the "My
Documents" folder away from c:\ in windows. Try this:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/221837
It says for 2000 and variants, but IIRC the location is the same for XP.
There are other tutorials around but the microsoft.com one is succinct
enough.

Then you're free to share the data drive with Ubuntu, either by using
a windows ext2/3 driver or linux ntfs/fat32 driver.

cheers,
Owen.
