No they don't.  Postfix is chosen _if_ you install something that asks for
an MTA, but it is _not_ part of a standard desktop install

As one who has configured both Exim and postfix (and doesn't currently use
either), again I agree with Ubuntu - postfix is simpler and just as robust.

Sorry, but I don't agree.  I keep telling you it's a simple config problem,
and you keep going off on tangents.  btw, Exim does it exactly the same
way - you tell it what are local domains and what are remote.

Come to think of it, it may even be that odd doubly defined "ubuntu"
in /etc/hosts.  127.0.0.1 may well be considered local by default, but the
other address can't be.
