While your other suggestions seem sound, I personally find much better
selection at the local (small) dedicated magazine outlet than I get from
the "large bookstore". :-)

For a less tongue-in-cheek response, my local magazine store contains :

Linux Magazine (UK version)
Linux Magazine (US version - completely unrelated to the above)
Linux Journal
Linux Format

All of which are good, at times (I have never wanted to subscribe to any of
them, as I find I only get anything useful from them every 2nd or 3rd
issue).
