Linux doesn't have a "registry" to clean.  Well there's Gconf (GNOME's
answer to a Windows registry) but it doesn't become a problem like the
Windows registry.

"deborphan" will search for unused Debian packages (although it's been
known to want to remove stuff you don't so ya gotta pay attention).

There's also a GUI app called gtkorphan that will hunt for unused
libraries. I've not tried it before.

Both are in the repos.
