Problems with reconnection to broadband connection

We run several Dapper machines directly connected
to a DSL modem. We mostly use QSC or Telekom connections.

After 24 hours the provider will cut the connection and pppd
will try to establish a new connection. In 95% this will work
just fine...but sometimes it fails.

So we use a own script which is run by cron every 5 minutes.
It checks if "ppp" is in the process list and If not we
restart the network and restart the ppp daemon.

But in some cases it does not work, too.

How do you solve this problem?
