It's probably not what you want to hear, but I would suggest trying to
boot a newer version of Ubuntu (at least Feisty). Since you're running
on newer hardware there is a good chance that the necessary drivers
are not included with Dapper. Either that, or try using the alternate
install CD for Dapper?

Which video option did you choose: Intel or NVIDIA?
