Problems after upgrade to Gutsy

Yesterday, I upgraded my desktop from Feisty to Gutsy. At the last stage
of the upgrade, when I was asked to remove obsolete packages, the X
server became unresponsive. At that point I did restart the X server
(over ssh from my laptop). I checked with synaptic for problems, but
everything appeared to be fine.
But after rebooting the system, I can't mount some of my partitions. I
get an error "Resource busy or already mounted" (or something similar
because I did not write it down). My /etc/fstab has entries with UUID's.
But I also tried with /dev/sdax and it makes no difference. But it does
work with /dev/mapper/sdax! But I don't understand why.
Note: I also have some partitions on lvm (/, /home and swap) and they
worked fine after the upgrade.
