RAlink RT2500 slow on Gutsy

I have a desktop machine running Gutsy which has an RAlink RT2500
wireless card (it's a Belkin, I think). Problem is that it runs slowly,
i.e.,under 100 KB/s. Also when doing an ssh file transfer it start off
OK and then hangs for a while and then carries on.

Bug number 134660 on launchpad seems to relate to this, but it's not
clear what the solution is.

Has anybody found a good fix for this? I've tried the suggestions in the
bug report but without success. (Actually, I've not tried the
NDISwrapper solution, but will do if someone can confirm it is a fix!)

TIA.

Regards,
Tony.
