Is there a way to make 7.10 install options work?

I a trying to do a clean install using a recently downloaded 7.10 CD,
but there seem to be some inconsistencies...

The <F1> help screens describe an 'aic7xxx.aic7xxx=no_probe' boot option
which I think I require for the DELL Precision 410 I am installing on,
but the help screens talk about a 'boot:' prompt which no longer seems
to exist...

When I try usig the 'F6 Other Options' I get the line:
        "Boot Options file=/cdrom/preseed/ubuntu.seed boot=casper
            xforcevesa initrd=/casper/initrd.gz quiet splash --"

But if I add the string in question to this line, I get the message
      [ 0/000000] Unknown boot option 'aic7xxx.aic7xxx=no_probe': ignoring

and the kernel still hangs... :-(

Have I missed something or is there a problem with kernel boot options
in 7.10?

Regards,
