New ATI Driver - Kernel 2.6.22-14 problems

Hi, as an Ubuntu newbie I would like to find out:

Does this Ati 8.42.3 driver work with my IBM Thinkpad T30 
Radeon Mobility M7 LW [Radeon Mobility 7500] ?

Normally I am working on 17" TFT 17.40.10 connected to the Thinkpad's
Docking Station with a Avocent/Cybex AutoView Commander KVM !

The TP does SXGA / 1400x1050 max and 
the external Belinea does 1280x1024 max !!

Currently it works but I cannot get both the screens displayed together
with their respective resolutions nor with reducing the TP to the lower
1280x1024 ;-(

Any positive experience, feedbacks, hints and solutions of users here ??
