Ah!  I only have a desktop...  so am unaware of such things.  The only 
closed source driver on my machine (as far as I know) is the nVidia 
driver supplied by linux-restricted-modules.

But surely that makes his position even worse:  "don't use a laptop AT 
ALL"!  Which may have an impact on the manufacturers, but would make 
many people's job impossible.
