You may find suitable open source software available for free in linux 
that will be easier to use.  Try running a livecd of ubuntu, and once 
it's running, open up synaptic package manager and search for the 
desired application.  You can search by usage too, for example, the work 
"finance" will return software that is useful for finance.  Many linux 
programs are compatible with their windows counterpart.  For example, 
KMyMoney will import quicken type files.
