Yes it could ! This could have to do with your VGA preferences settings, 
and this could explain why creating a new user (default VGA setting 
could be different), in my case, makes wine works properly with this user.

If somebody can explain how to change the driver to VESA, in a graphic 
way better this could help Willis. If not he will have to edit by hand 
Xorg.conf ...
