Take a look at xubuntu. It may be what you consider 'stripped down',
but it is very functional and very fast.

I had no intention of printing out this message, in fact, what portion
of the message do you feel was suitable for printing?

I did not receive any files transmitted with the message. Did you mean
to attach something? In any case, you need to be specific as to what
is confidential, proprietary, or legally privileged in the context of
your question. Are you aware that when you post to a public mailing
list that thousands of people receive your confidential, proprietary,
and legally privileged information? Hundreds of bots will also archive
your message, and tens of those will be indexed by google. Parts of
your message will likely be quoted by others when they reply to you,
and those replies will also be archived in public websites. Even
future spambots may harvest your words and use them in anti-baysian
filter text. Confidentiality and privilege were never assured nor
suggested.

You are going to have a hard time tracking down all the archives of
your message. Also, you will have to define clearly who the intended
recipient is. You sent your message to a public mailing list. That
means that thousands of people will have your mail delivered directly
into their mailbox. Are they all the intended recipients? How about
the archive bots? They are subscribers just like the humans are.

Assuming that you, Chris, are the sender, then be notified that there
are now likely thousands of copies of your mail, all spread about the
world with no central regulation. You should be more careful with what
you send, and to whom it is addressed. You have no one to blame but
yourself for this one, and I am afraid that the more that you try to
pressure people into deleting copies of your message, the more
widespread they will be sent. Read on /. about the couple who tried
suing google to have a photo of their house removed from google street
view. Same principle.

The only view that I could perceive from your message is that you feel
that the standard Ubuntu installation is not fast enough. Is that your
personal view, the view of your employer, or the view of someone else
who authorized you to express that view?

Feel free, I happen to know the consequences of sending mail to a
mailing list, and I am comfortable doing so.

If I ever get to London I will keep this in mind. Thanks.

A: Because it messes up the order in which people normally read text.
Q: Why is top-posting such a bad thing?
