I actually find it more natural to have the cursor placed at the top and
move down to the point to which I am replying than to have to move up
from the bottom. That being said, I'd much rather do things as I do
them, which is to attribute and then copy and paste specific quotes if I
need to quote at all than to have the entire previous message quoted
whether I need to quote or not and then have to work out what I want to
delete or trim out. That usually works for me, since I usually hit reply
from within the message I'm reading so the window for the previous
message from which I'm quoting is already open and is a prime target for
copying and pasting. But if I did have to have the entire quote of the
previous message, I want my cursor at the top, since I read from top to
bottom, trim/delete from top to bottom and I reply from top to bottom
rather than from bottom to top. In this regard, Evolution is actually
logical. It just doesn't prevent "lazy posting", and nothing does. That
being said, I'd rather see the quote of the previous message placed as a
footnote for reference by a "lazy poster" who doesn't know any better
than to have to try to scroll down through the entire previous 3
messages or more to find the meat of the reply, which is done by "lazy
posters" because they are told in no uncertain terms that top posting is
just bad.

Live long and prosper,
Lorenzo
