I booted up this morning - everything was normal, installed 7 upgrades
(freshclam, lvm-manager and some other) and then I turned off the
computer to go out.

Now when I returned and booted up my machine I ran into a error message

/init: ./34: Can't open /scripts/functions
[ 20.587228] kernel panic - not syncing: attempted to kill init!

This happened with the 2.6.24-16 kernel in both normal and recovery mode.

I got the 2.6.24-14 kernel to boot up. I switched to Hardy a few days
ago and so far no problems of this magnitude.

Cheers,
Matthias Andersson
