spontaneous Compiz combustion

When running
$ compiz
from the command-line do u get Segmentation fault?
I had similar problem as yours on Intrepid, the compiz get disabled from
time to time, reacting on some triger. I was using the repository from ppa,
and this oddity started to happened after upgrading Compiz. What I did was
purge all related to compiz includin emerald if u using it.
After that I instal it from the Ubuntu main repositories (compiz compiz-core
compiz-dev compiz-fusion-bcop compiz-fusion-plugins-extra
compiz-fusion-plugins-main compiz-gnome compiz-plugins compiz-wrapper
compizconfig-backend-gconf compizconfig-settings-manager emerald
python-compizconfig).
After that all started to work normally...
