openoffice 3 upgrade problem

Please don't recommend using a ppa for OOo 3.0 unless you are testing,
or know what are getting into. Here is a reply that I provided to a user

If you install from the ppa the only support you'll receive is
(possibly) from the person that provides the ppa, not from the folks
that maintain the (U)OOo packages in the official repository.

If you want to install OOo 3.0, _keep_ your existing Ubuntu OOo version,
download OOo 3.0 from http://download.openoffice.org/index.html and
install the deb. This is a better howto that also applies to 8.10:

Be sure keep your existing (U)OOo and follow the steps in "2 Creating A
Launcher" to create a menu item. Also note that there are 2 pages on
that howto.
  Also rather than use the possibly outdated file names in "3
Uninstalling OpenOffice 3.0.0", just search in Synaptic for 'ooo' and
you'll be able to see & uninstall all of the existing OOo 3.0 files.
