ah ha. ok, so that perhaps explains why someone posted a response to my 
corresponding query in the "Ubuntu Forums > The Ubuntu Forum Community  > Main 
Support Categories  > Dell Ubuntu Support" forum wherein they said they are 
using a 250GB Samsung disk internally without any  problems on the same system 
as I have.
