Hi Pete, Daryn & Walter
At the moment I would like to change the subject into:

JPIlot and Treo: backup broke my Evolution !!!

With my experiments to get JPilot running, indended standalone, I ran
into problems with my Evolution data !!

There is a confilct between Evolution and JPilot to be the ONE sync'ing
the PDA's data !

It would be very very important to spread this experience and knowledge
and
it's clear and correct settings to avoid these problems !!

What happened ???

1) I wanted to setup JPIlot to have standalone backup/restore for a Palm
Treo 680 only !
2) Setting "System/Preferences/PalmOS Devices/gnome-pilot settings" got
quite difficult !!
3) Always looking into Jpilot for data always was a disappointing NO
show !!!
4) (UN-) Fortunate and not knowing how it came:
Somehow first SYNC'ing was started and the whole system got knocked
down ...
... no application could be stopped normally, no shutdown was
possible ...
... power off was the ONLY hammer to get the system rebooted ;-O
5) After rebooting the system, especially Evolution, appeared different
strange.
6) Yes, the sync was, UN-expected, done with Evolution and NOT with
JPilot
7) JPilot still is empty and NO show of any data
8) Currently the Treo 680 always sync's with Evolution and
I really do not know where the data are now !!??
9) I too do NOT know how, in case, to restore and from where !!!
10) In a way I am NOT UN-happy how it is now ...
... but I would love to understand effectively and competent what's
happening !!
11) Like this it does NOT matter if JPilot isn't working and I can get
along like this ;-))

As for being very careful and for security reason, and NOT KNOWING that
the sync
would deal with Evolution instead of JPilot, I made a mistake myself:

I changed "gnome-pilot settings" standard action "synchronize" with
adding the ONE
time action "Copy from PDA" !!!

This UN-fortunately OVERwrote all my Evolution data !!

Fortunately the e-mails from Evolution weren't touched ...
... this had been a real disaster for me, because I hadn't expected
Evolution to be
involved and had NO backup of its data ! ;-((

One more funny thingy appeared:
While the sync'ing I am getting very very many "gnome-pilot settings"
pop-up's !?
The sync process always abended and restarting it is cleaning and ending
normally !?

So, I hope my longwinding feedback isn't to boring for you and
wish we all get to find out how to get this working properly and without
problems either
the Evolution ...
... or the JPilot way depending on each personal choice. ;-)))

TIA for your support and cheers,
svobi
