Installing Ubuntu

To Whom It May Concern

On a spare and expendable computer, I downloaded the Ubuntu operating
system. All the necessary files appear to have come through but I can’t for
the life of me get it up and running as a default O/S. When I attempted to
use the Windows to Ubuntu facility (not the right terminology I know), I was
informed that the CD necessary to complete this function could not be found.
WHAT CD?! There was no CD involved. This was a direct download from the
Ubuntu site to my PC.

I am very much in favour of your Open Source philosophy, but you don’t make
it easy. Directions are far from clear, are in fact, highly confusing.

Can you please provide some clear direction, as I am fired with enthusiasm
to eliminate all things Windows-based from my computing life.

Phil
