disabling sent folder in evolution

I currently have access to 2 copies of every message I send in evolution
now that I have switched my gmail accounts to use the imap server
instead of pop3. 1 copy os in the master sent folder on this computer
and the other is in the imap sent mail folder. Since I have full access
to everything on gmail from evo now, is there any way to completely
disable the sent folder for those accounts, since every time I use
gmail's smtp server to send a message a copy of that message is put in
the imap sent mail folder? I could only find where to change the sent
folder, but not where I can disable it. A google search found several
similar but not quite questions which suggested changing the sent folder
to the imap sent folder, but I don't want gmail saving 2 copies every
time I send a message. There was also an unanswered question how to
disable the sent folder on the Ubuntu forum. I would be happy to receive
any help anyone can provide on this topic.

Thanks,
Lorenzo
