You seem to have made the error of assuming that by installing the 
KDE desktop all the KDE apps will be installed automatically.  
This  not so. "KDE desktop" is a trivial download.  The full KDE 
suite is HUGE.
In Synaptic, search for kde and see how many kde apps you have 
installed.    My guess is "not many".  Install the ones you want  
and your menu will show them.
If you HAVE installed many apps, Alt-F2 will give you a command 
line and you can run kappfinder, which can scan your system for 
menu items.  From what you have said I don't think even 
kappfinder is installed.
