Well, maybe USB is working, but that doesn't mean a lot in case of a 
camera. Please try to connect the camera without a hub, that might be the 
problem. Another possible reason might be if there are other devices 
connected to the same bus, because a camera wants to allocate a lot of 
bandwidth. Usually there are several USB connectors and some share the 
same bus. You can check it with the "lsusb" command. When I connect my 
webcam at the same bus where my mouse is connected, it doesn't work. 
Therefore I have connected the webcam directly to the machine and I use a 
hub to connect keyboard and mouse together to another bus.
