Help with Switching from Windows

Thank you all for these replies. So, it turns out that I'm the dummy, but I
learned something (which I actually read somewhere else as well): I tried to
burn the CD again, using Nero, at a speed of 4x (rather than 48x) and it now
seems to be working.

So...wish me luck this evening as I embark on a new chapter in my computing
life!
