OK. I'm back ... with a clean installation. Not impatient. My struggle
with Linux has been going on for several years. The above would have
been very useful before I applied other advice. I understand the problem
of knowledgeable people seeing the same problems all the time, and
restraining themselves from answering the same things. The result is
that some bad advice is published, and I seem to have encountered it.
Anyway, your advice will be added to my Ubuntu notebook. Hope I'll not
need to use it. Thanks.
