Latest Hardy Update & More Flashplayer Issues

Actually had my Hardy Firefox3 playing pretty much all
flash media I came across until todays update/upgrade.
The upgrade included firefox3 and gnome support and
flashplugin-nonfree(a version 10.*.*.* + a real
9.*.*.*) along with some other upgrades. The upgrade
immediately locked firefox at the first attempt to
play:
javascript:void(window.open('http://us.rd.yahoo.com/csp/sbc/hp/pcm/watch_miss_usa_takes_tumble_at_pageant/*http://cosmos.bcst.yahoo.com/up/sbc?http://us.rd.yahoo.com/csp/sbc/hp/pcm/watch_miss_usa_takes_tumble_at_pageant/*http://primetime.tv.yahoo.com/','playerWindow','width=793,height=608,scrollbars=no'));
Had to kill X to unfreeze firefox. Ran a
dpkg-reconfigure flashplugin-nonfree to reinstall
flashplayer which did OK but just got flashplugin
9.0.124.0ubuntu2 whereas I already had flashplugin
10.0.1.218(last no. 218 may be wrong) installed.
About:plugins only shows Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124 now
while before the upgrade, SWF v10.0.0* was at the top
of the list and SWF v9.0.124 was at the bottom.
Until this update my X86-64 firefox3 was playing flash
video very well but now the little green popup says
that I need a plugin:application/x-shockwave-flash and
wants me to install it. Clicking the link,
downloading and running ./flash-installer fails
because its a 32 bit plugin. Had already copied
libflashplayer.so to the designated location(actually
in several related locations, including
npwrapper.libflashplayer.so and ran the
update-flashplugin-alternative as Deric had mentioned
in a related post.
Hoping someone will respond to this(haven't gotten
many answers lately) with some clues on how to fix
this new but old issue with flash media. Yep, I've
read virtually all the googles on flash issues and
used this one to solve most of my problems with flash
on firefox3 X86-64:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683
Used this url to install flashplugin v 10.0.0.*
http://www.myscienceisbetter.info/2008/05/install-adobe-flash-player-10-on-ubuntu-using-nspluginwrapper.html
Am running KDE instead of Gnome.
Please someone, anyone, some help to get flash working
again.
TIA,
