Hi,
My first question would be "What do you want to do with your webcam?".
Skype, or what else ?
Often, the device can be recognised by Linux, but all the program around
(free given CD) are not that compatible, when they can be installed.
Plug in your camera, and immediatly look at the list line of the file
"messages". For this, just type in a terminal :

tail -50 /var/log/messages

This will show you the last 50 lines of this file. You should see
something like this :

Jul 16 13:06:41 IT-Manager kernel: [ 2591.562995] usb 1-1: new high
speed USB device using ehci_hcd and address 4
Jul 16 13:06:41 IT-Manager kernel: [ 2591.637718] usb 1-1: configuration
#1 chosen from 1 choice
Jul 16 13:06:41 IT-Manager kernel: [ 2591.637892] uvcvideo: Found UVC
1.00 device USB 2.0 Camera (0c45:62c0)
Jul 16 13:06:41 IT-Manager kernel: [ 2591.638875] input: USB 2.0 Camera
as /class/input/input10

Let us know, many will help you. And please tell us at least the
name/reference of this webcam

Philippe
