Because it is part of gnome? Or at least perceived to be. Although I
installed Ubuntu, I also installed kde - kubuntu desktop and kde4.1 so
I'm running that as my desktop 99% of the time (the remaining part is
when something breaks and I'm launched into gnome). Yet, although I
don't use it, it's taking up space in my process tree, and anytime I
click on a mailto: link - evolution pops up.
So, if you installed thunderbird and used that, you might be able to
tweak the popularity contest statistics, but then you'd be just one
user.
