Unable to use Ubuntu 8.04 live CD

Now here is something odd... on the laptop (IBM ThinkPad A21M) I get the
boot errors and then the UID/PW prompt, on the other machine (standard
desktop 2.4Ghz) I do not. I'll check later to see what the difference is.
