can't use Google Earth !

Probably 'sudo apt-get install fglrx-driver'
and "sudo apt-get install fglrx-driver-source"

You'll likely need build-essential and module-assistant to build the
driver source. And you're probably now using the supplied ati video
driver with xorg, so that might explain why you don't get direct
rendering.

I'd check ubuntuforums or google for recipes. I've not used ati cards
in a very very long time (back in the 386 days, I had an ATI graphics
expression card.)
