urgent+ubuntu 8.04 desktop+post installation trouble

thnx for the mail aart

i did get into the graphics mode with the recovery mode. but i am not an
expert in the linux OS, i found a wiki page for console login which asks me
to enter dpkg -S /sbin/init
and then it shows upstart:/sbin/init

frmo here i have no idea how to proceed. :(
