Changing Desktop

yesterday i installed Kubuntu-Desktop using synaptic. 

I had Gnome installed by default which is still there. I wanted to ask about this: 

Should i remove one of them? or after downloading and installing Kubuntu-Desktop are both desktops supposed to stay on the system? 

If i wanted to remove, say, Kubuntu, would i simply use synaptic to remove it?
