How do I find out about ubuntu updates

I recently got an update notification indicating 52 updates were
available for download.  

I wanted to know if their were any fixes for the problems I'm having and
I wasn't able to find a mailing list which looked like it answered
exactly WHAT the updates were for.  I guess I could have gone through
the summaries for all 52 but........

So is their a mailing list I can subscribe to, not just for security
updates, but for normal updates as well that tells me what updates have
been released and what they do?

I apologize if this is grass roots....
