Ver -7.10 - restarts xserver on its own intermittently

Dear users,

I have been facing this problem for some time now. The ubuntu version is
7.10.  I have seen that at times the X windows on my machine restarts on its
own. All the windows that are open are gone and I get a fresh desktop. But
the services that i had started, for example an Oracle DB service (which i
start by executing commands  and not some startup scripts), are still
running.

I think that the machine/X server restarts whenever things get a bit busy
or  may be the computer is made to work a litttle hareder by opening many
windows at a time etc.  My firefox version is 2.0.0.14. Firefox was ON
whenever i faced this problem. Also, i read in one of the archives that, the
machine may restart if the temperature goes up and had applied one solution
as given blow:

Added acpi =off to the file */boot/grub/menu.lst*
