NFS mount.nfs: internal error

Since my upgrade to hardy one of my machines is having problems
connecting to an NFS share on a debian etch NAS machine of mine. Samba
sharing and all other connectivity is fine.

The error it gives is (unhelpfully):
mount.nfs: internal error

However, I think it might be the same bug as:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/213444
where a solution is suggested at:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=477503

Both machines are fully up-to-date with patches. I've tried some of
the suggestions in the bug reports but to no avail.  (I've not
recompiled mount.c)

Has anyone else run into this problem and/or a workaround for this?
