Fwd: problems with VLC and Totem playing image on external monitor

Hi,
I think that's because your internal monitor is your "primary" monitor. 
If you turn that monitor off, e.g. using xrandr --output 
"yourInternalMonitor" --off, you should see the video on your external 
monitor. (type xrandr -q to see the names of your connected monitors).
This works only if randr is supported in your system.

To change it, that your external monitor is permanently you primary 
monitor, you have to modify your xorg.conf. To get a graphical frontend 
for this try "sudo displayconfig" .
