no HDMI output on TV

hi everybody,
I'm fighting since 3 hours to get an ouput on my TV, without success.
My config:
  - on the PC:
    Intel 82G35 graphic card
    HDMI output socket
  = TV: LG60_PF9 (HDMI input)

After the following call to xrandr:
    xrandr --output TMDS-1 --auto
I got in Xorg Xorg.0.log

     II) intel(0): Output configuration:
(II) intel(0): Pipe A is on
(II) intel(0): Display plane A is now enabled and connected to pipe A.
(II) intel(0): Pipe B is on
(II) intel(0): Display plane B is now enabled and connected to pipe B.
(II) intel(0): Output VGA is connected to pipe A
(II) intel(0): Output HDMI-1 is connected to pipe B

In System/preferences/ScreeResolution, I actually see a mirror screen
    LG Electonics 32"

... but on the TV, I just have "no signal"

Of course, I tried to google: I got about 4600 entries, all with questions or bug
reports, but nothing really helpful (I must confess that I didn't read all the 4600
entries)
Can anybody tell me what I can do, except waiting for Ubuntu 10.10?

I must add that with the 7 year old Windows XP (on the same PC), it took
1 minute and 3 clicks to get a perfect output!

Is Ubuntu "Linux for human beings", or for "Neandertal beings" ?

cheers,
