How to fine tune or tweak the visual effects?

Hello,

Hopefully this is a simple question but I've been wanting to fine tune 
the desktop effects a little more than none, normal, or extra has to 
offer. I've looked high and low and perhaps I am missing something here 
or maybe I need to install a helper type application to do the job? Any 
advice or pointing me in the general direction would certainly be 
helpful. Thank you kindly.
