can't locate cups server

Hi gang,

Did the update to Intrepid the other and day all is fine, but I having
trouble with printer configuration.  It seems like the cups server isn't
running.  I have a brother mfc420cn (running 64bit), and did the instal
intstructions at
http://solutions.brother.com/linux/en_us/instruction_prn1a.html.

It fails at step 5 and responds with a can't locate server error.  When
I look at the system services tool, cups isn't listed, and when I go to
configure the printer, it can't connect to the server.  

I did a reinstal of cups useing synaptic, but that had no effect on the
problem.  

Any suggestions?
