installing 8.04 on sata drives prob

Hi James,

with SATA there is no Master/Slave Concept anymore. Are you sure?

As this is an older machine from the "SATA stoneage", I would consider 
to do a Bios upgrade, should it be availalbe and should the release 
notes from your Bios version to the current say something indicating 
that is could relate to your problem.

Furthermore you might try to vary the SATA mode in your Bios.
Usually you can choose between IDE and AHCI.
However, in contrast to wintendo, Linux gnerally does not have trouble 
with either setting.

Lastly it might help to try newer Ubuntu releases, i.e. Intrepid 8.10 or 
at least 8.04.1
