Compaq TC1100 running 8.10 won't boot after updates.

Thank you all for the responses. . .
NoOp - Yes, I found out by using a disk utility that a sector the hard drive
had been damaged.  A low level format would have fixed it [to cordon it
off], but decided to replace it with a new one with as the propensity for
the drive to fail again is much higher after one failure.  I installed the
9.04 beta.  So far so VERY GOOD.  :-)

Gremlin linuxhelp - No SATA - just a single IDE drive.  I have no experience
with dmraid -ay but will research it out and possibly install it on the new
config.  My experience has shown me that it is far better to have the tools
installed BEFORE the crash.  Kind of like having savings and credit BEFORE
you need it. :-)
