Here is one reference for Brian's point, me. Of course, you have no reason
to take my word for it either. Before there even was /media we used /mnt
for mounting, both for manual temporary mounting of filesystems and for
fstab mounting of filesystems of which we wanted some persistence. It
didn't detract from mounting things in ~home for which we wanted full
access and just about any configuration you would desire is possible with
symlinks. I've probably been around long enough now for me to be able to
cite "traditional". Naturally, this is open source, we all have the
freedom to choose to organize things so they work best for us, as long as
we have the knowledge to do so.
