I have no experience with Cubase (just looked at it once and didn't like 
it) but on Windows I use Finale and in Linux there now is Musescore, a 
very interesting notation program and much more advanced than Canorus. I 
only do notation (writing arrangements for combo's and big band). I 
never use it as Cubase which is often used by wind-instrumentalists to 
play with. Rosegarden and Lilypond are not graphic and they require a 
completely different mind-setting (>!).
