My 2c on migration is (1) planning (esp. communication, risk mitigation 
and training), (2) replicate the source on the object before updating/
adding (which presupposes that you've determined what you do and don't 
need on the source, i.e. you've done (1)). (3) Know when you are finished.

First risk, I'd say, is the amount of memory in the machines. Memory is 
cheap, don't scrimp on it. And it give the biggest bang for the buck.

Once you've written down what you are going to do, then the migration 
itself should be fairly mechanical. Things will go wrong. Don't panic!
